Frequently Answered Questions

Who can use St. Louis Community College Libraries?

The general public is welcome to visit St. Louis Community College Libraries. During your visit you may use library materials except those on Reserve. If you wish to use one of the public access computers or the College's wifi, library staff can set up a temporary account for you.

Who can check out materials?

Currently enrolled St. Louis Community College students, faculty, and staff can check out circulating materials with a valid St. Louis Community College ID card. Membership in the campus Alumni Association entitles members to courtesy library privileges. Materials reserved for a course may be restricted to students currently enrolled in that course.

How do I get a library card?

Student ID cards can be obtained from the Student Activities Office upon presentation of the current semester fee receipt and one picture ID, such as a driver's license.

What are the loan periods for materials?

Books from the circulating collection check out to students for a 28 day period. Loan periods for other formats vary at Florissant Valley, Forest Park, Meramec, and Wildwood Libraries. Most materials, except reserves, can be renewed up to five times provided there is not a hold on the material. See our Loan Policies page for more information.

How can I renew materials?

You may call the circulation desk at any of the four St. Louis Community College campus libraries or you may renew your checked-out materials online. Simply go to the Library Catalog and click on the "Renew Item/View Record" button. You will be asked to enter your name and College ID number. Now click on the "Submit" button, then click on the "Items checked out" button. You have the choice of renewing all of your materials or just selected items. (Please note that renewals may be blocked because someone else has requested an item or you have already renewed them too many times.)

What if the Libraries don't have what I need?

See our page Borrowing From Other Libraries for information about requesting materials we don't own.

How do I log in to the library databases and e-books?

There are several ways. If you are using an STLCC-issued computer you might have direct access to the databases without another login. The same if you are logged in to Canvas when you open a database link. If you are not logged in to the college network or Canvas, you will need to log in using either your Canvas information or your name and your college ID number and ST. See Connecting from Off Campus for details. A few resources, such as Safari (O'Reilly) e-books and New York Times Digital Subscription, require you to create an account using your college email. Some databases also allow you to create a personal account to save information or use advanced features.

I'm in ArcherSearch and the articles (or e-books) won't open. How do I get the articles?

First, check for a yellow bar at the top of your search results: "Hello, Guest. Login for full access." If you see this, you must log in to see the full text of articles. Keep in mind that not all articles listed are available. In the menu on the left, find Limit To  and check the box next to "Online Full Text Only."
