Resources for general science topics.

What is ScienceDirect?

ScienceDirect is a database of high-quality, peer-reviewed scientific and social sciences journal articles. St. Louis Community College Libraries subscribe to three sections of ScienceDirect: Health Sciences, Life Sciences, and the Social Sciences and Humanities. We also have access to many of the articles in the Physcial Sciences and Engineering section.

Why Use ScienceDirect?

Use ScienceDirect to

  • search a large database of scholarly, peer-reviewed journal articles.
  • browse articles by title or subject area
  • find research articles in all areas of science and in other fields including the psychology, health and medicine, and the social sciences.

Since this is such a large database, it's easy to be overwhelmed by the sheer number of articles returned by a search. Here are a few tips to make sure you get the best results.

1) Be specific! Use scientific names and terminology.

2) Limit your search to "Subscribed publications" and "Open Access articles" (under Refine your search)

3) You can also limit your search to a subset of journals that focus on a discipline or subject. Scroll through the list under "All Sciences" to see the choices.

4) Limit by publication date.
