Campus Writing Centers

MLA Documentation - (Modern Language Association Citation Style)

The Modern Language Association (MLA) publishes two main citation guides. The MLA Handbook for Writers of Research Papers is used primarily by high school and undergraduate students. The MLA Style Manual and Guide to Scholarly Publishing is a standard for scholars, graduate students and professional writers.

APA Documentation - (American Psychological Association Citation Style)

The American Psychological Association (APA) publishes the Publication manual of the American Psychological Association and recommends its citation style for those in the following fields: Economics, Business, Sociology, Psychology, Social Work, Nursing and Criminology. Check with your teacher if you are not sure which documentation style is required for a specific assignment.

Books For Citation and Formatting Help

These books are the authoritative guides for each style. Consult them for help with your citations, and with formatting your paper.  Click on a title or book cover for more information, including where to find the book in your STLCC campus library.

Online Citation Generators

Each of these citation generators will help you create your list of references or works cited.  You should always double-check the entries created by these generators to make sure the formatting and punctuation is correct.
