Resources to Support African American Male Scholars

The goal of this guide is to enhance understanding of the assets and challenges that African American male students bring to college with them and to provide resources to enhance success. It is meant to be used by students, faculty and staff.

Use Search It!

Search It! is a search tool (discovery service) that searches many sources simultaneously. You will find books, ebooks, videos, articles, and links to databases or library guides. Get the most out of Search It! by using the limits listed under Refine Results in the left side menu.

Refining and Limiting Results

The image below shows a short list of results from a keyword search in Search It! In the left column, under Refine Results, are options to limit your search. Limits include Source Types, Publication Date, Location, and Subject.

Viewing an Article in Search It!

The image below shows the Detailed Record that appears when you click on the title of a search result. The center column of the record contains author, date, source, and subject headings, and may include an abstract (summary). The right column provides Tools to email, print, save, and cite.  Full text of the article may also appear below the description, or as a link on the left under the Detailed Record icon. Since Search It! finds results in many different sources, you often have to follow a path to locate the full text.
