Affordable & Open Educational Resources (A&OER)

Use this guide to deepen your understanding of affordable and open educational resources and to find, evaluate, and integrate A&OER to support student success.

A&OER Council

The A&OER Council facilitates the success of A&OER initiatives at STLCC by providing the supportive resources that faculty require to adopt and create affordable and open educational resources.

Meetings are open to all.

FREE and LOW [-Cost] Course Attributes

A&OER Council established a definition for "Free" and Low Cost" course materials at the college and collaborated with the Registrar's Office so that courses that met the criteria could be marked with the associated characteristic in the Interactive Class Schedule.

  • FREE = $0.00 total cost of all required course materials
  • LOW = $40.00 or less total cost of all required course materials (based on pre-tax retail price from official college Bookstore or publisher-direct purchase)

Faculty members should advise their Pathway division's Schedule Builder (i.e. Pathway dean's administrative assistant) or Registrar's office of any course sections that meet these criteria at the same time that required course materials are identified.
