Ideas for helping students navigate the information ecosystem

Novice to Expert Scales

Faculty may want to examine How Information Works," when designing assignments with information literacy in mind. These "almost-rubrics" provide scales describing behaviors and attitudes of novices through experts for each frame.

Adapted from the Framework for Information Literacy for Higher Education, by the Association of College and ResearchLibraries (ACRL) Adopted by the ACRL Board, January 11, 2016. “How Information Works” was created by librarians at Ohio University Libraries: Sherri Saines (lead), Miriam Intrator, Kelly Broughton, Lorraine Wochna, and Hanna Schmillen.
