The American Institute of Ultrasound in Medicine is a multidisciplinary medical association of more than 9000 physicians, sonographers, scientists, students, and other health care providers. Established in the early 1950’s, the AIUM is dedicated to advancing the safe and effective use of ultrasound in medicine through professional and public education, research, development of guidelines, and accreditation.

​​​​​​​​​​​​​The American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography® (ARDMS®) administers examinations and awards credentials in areas of ultrasound. Through its mission, ARDMS empowers sonographers to provide exceptional patient care through rigorous assessments and continual learning. ARDMS® offers credentials in several areas, including RDMS. Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer. Candidates must meet eligibility requirements, possess the proper prerequisites and pass an examination to earn ARDMS credentials.

The ASE is an organization of professionals committed to excellence in cardiovascular ultrasound, with an emphasis on quality and professionalism. As such, the ASE acknowledges and promotes the importance of maintaining the highest standards in all activities related to the performance of cardiovascular ultrasound, the provision of patient care and other aspects of professional life.

In collaboration with the Joint Review Committees on Accreditation in Diagnostic Medical Sonography (JRCDMS), CAAHEP reviews and accredits sonography education programs across the United States and Canada. Accrediting body for STLCC Diagnostic Medical Sonography

The Health Professions Network (HPN) is a nationwide collaborative group of organizations representing leading health professions associations, accrediting agencies, and educational institutions, as well as federal and state workforce analysts and licensing and certification bodies. A wide range of health professions make up the HPN and encompass the majority of approximately 200 different positions in health care, including athletic trainers, clinical laboratory scientists, diagnostic medical sonographers, medical assistants, music therapists, physician assistants, radiologic technologists, respiratory therapists, and more.

The JRCDMS evaluates and recommends for accreditation educational programs in the field of medical ultrasonography; participants are physicians and medical ultrasonographers.

The Society of Diagnostic Medical Sonography (SDMS) was founded in 1970 to promote, advance, and educate its members and the medical community in the science of diagnostic medical sonography. The SDMS ​is a network of over 28,000 sonographers practicing in all specialty areas, sonography students, educators, physicians, nurses, and other healthcare providers who practice or have an interest in diagnostic medical sonography.
