Morgan Talty is a citizen of the Penobscot Indian Nation where he grew up. Named one of Narrative’s “30 Below 30,” Talty’s work has appeared in The Georgia Review, Shenandoah, TriQuarterly, Narrative Magazine, LitHub, and elsewhere. He lives in Levant, Maine.

An ancient metropolis, it was an artistic, cultural, and power center during the Mississippian period, and its inhabitants created the largest earthworks in North America.

Visit Kirkwood Public Library on September 24 from 1:30pm-3:30pm: Delve into the captivating history behind Native food as our knowledgeable presenters share the cultural significance, connections to the land, and ancestral influences that shape these traditional recipes. This is an immersive program that combines food demonstrations, enlightening talks, and captivating storytelling to explore the origins and traditions behind Indigenous recipes.

This is not a hands-on cooking class, but will include a cooking demo in which attendees will be shown how to cook dishes such as Bison/Elk Chili and Three Sisters Salad. Attendees will be allowed to sample the dishes and recipe cards will be available to replicate the dishes at home.
