Streaming Media

St. Louis Community College subscribes to several streaming film & video databases. This guide is intended to help faculty learn more about streaming media options available through STLCC Libraries. It includes helpful links to streaming media databases and related resources, tips and tools for using them in your classes, and information on integrating streaming media into Canvas. So if you are looking for ways to enhance current lessons with video, or are wanting to include a feature film in your class this guide is for you!

Large Video Collections

These collections include thousands of documentaries, educational films, and other videos.

Includes documentaries, films, and demonstrations in a wide range of subject areas.
Includes more than 62,000 titles spanning the widest range of subject areas including anthropology, business, counseling, film, health, history, music, and more, curated for the educational experience with a wide range of content types such as documentaries, films, demonstrations, etc.
Films on Demand This link opens in a new window
Educational videos available for video streaming.
Films on Demand is a collection of more than 40,000 educational videos available for video streaming. Titles are organized into subject and other categories. Most videos are divided in to segments which may be searched and viewed individually.

Feature Films and Documentaries

Digital Campus This link opens in a new window
Streaming access to course-assigned feature films and documentaries outside of the classroom.
Digital Campus from Swank Motion Pictures provides streaming access to course-assigned feature films and documentaries outside of the classroom. The films available through Digital Campus have been chosen for instructional use from a catalog of thousands of titles. Only instructors can request to have titles added to Digital Campus. See the Digital Campus Guide for more information.

Because this service is maintained to support classroom instruction, the films available through Digital Campus will vary from semester to semester.

Films licensed through Digital Campus can be viewed online for individual or course use only. Public or group viewings of these films are strictly prohibited.

With hundreds of full-length feature films, this high-interest collection focuses on both current and hard-to-find titles, including literary adaptations, blockbusters, classics, environmental titles, foreign films, social issues, animation studies, Academy Award® winners, and more.

MEF Collection- Media Education Foundation
The documentaries in the Media Education Foundation (MEF) Collection encourage critical thinking about the social, political, and cultural impact of American mass media. With a special focus on representations of gender and race, and the effect these representations have on identity and culture, MEF films are especially well-suited for use in Women's Studies, Sociology, Race Studies,Communication, Anthropology, Education, and Psychology courses.
Media Education Foundation: Discussion Guides
Website with resources including transcripts, lesson plans, and discussion guides for the films in the MEF Collection.

Media Education Foundation has partnered with Kanopy Streaming Service to provide this exciting new digital video delivery service.

Streaming video service for documentaries, independent and foreign films, classics, and feature films.
Kanopy provides access to a broad selection of streaming video titles for educational purposes, including documentaries, independent and foreign films, classics, and feature films. Kanopy's collection includes films from hundreds of content providers including Media Education Foundation, PBS, BBC, New Day Films, the Criterion Collection, Kino Lorber, California Newsreel, and others.

Collection of online video for the study of American history.
American History in Video provides a collection of online video for the study of American history -- 2,000 hours and more than 5,000 titles on completion. This collection is a collaboration with A&E Television Networks and features documentaries and series from The History Channel®, A&E Network®, and Biography®.
