Help for Faculty

Boost Student Research Skills

Scheduling a Session

Please request your session at least a week in advance. Details about the purpose and goals of the session, including assignments, will help us tailor the session to the research needs of your students. A librarian will get back to you to confirm and discuss any further planning.

During the Session

As classroom faculty, you are expected to remain with your students during the session to promote and emphasize the importance of information literacy. When instructors value library research, their students tend to do the same.

Collaboration and Planning

Instruction librarians can collaborate with you to design the best instructional experience for your students. Consider these options:

  • Traditional lecture and demonstration of finding articles for general research
  • Focus on specific types of articles (news, opinion, peer-reviewed, reference)
  • Focus on a subject area or course topics
  • Workshop on evaluating websites
  • A session early in the semester to introduce library resources and research basics, with an in-depth session later in the semester when students are working on specific research topics.

We are open to other ideas. We can help design research assignments, create online Course Guides, and collaborate on designing tutorials, too.
