Posting a Films on Demand link in Canvas
Best Practice: include the name of the video in your assignment, so students may find it in Films on Demand directly if they need to.
Create a Link that Embeds the Video Inside Canvas
- In Canvas, select the "New" button and then click "Add" and then [ Create Page ].
- Give your page a name in the "Page Name" box and then add it.
- Navigate to the page, open it, and edit it.
- Add any introductory material about the video that is desired.
- Click on the Apps tool on the top right. It looks like an electric plug.
Then select "Films on Demand" from the drop-down menu.
- Type the name of the video into the search box. Make sure to select the correct film/segment. You can use the "Preview" button to check.
- Click on the "Embed" drop-down menu and select the size you would like, small, medium, or large.
- Save your page and test.

Use this link if you would like students to access the full functionality of the Films on Demand interface, including viewing the transcript, segments, and citation.
- Find the desired film or segment in FOD and click on "Share" below the screen and then "Embed Link" at the top of the pop-up window.
- Copy the "Record URL."
- In Canvas, select the "New" button and under "Add" select "External URL."
- Paste the URL and give the page a name.
- Save your link and test.
Create a Link that Opens the Video in Full-Screen in a New Window
This will open the video in full-screen. Captions may still be turned on using the "CC" button at the bottom of the video.
- Find the desired film or segment in FOD and click on "Share" below the screen and then "Embed Link" at the top of the pop-up window.
- Copy the "LTI Link."
- In Canvas, select the "New" button and under "Add" select "External URL."
- Paste the URL and give the page a name.
- Save your link and test.
