1. E Reference Books –

  • Sheila shared information about our e-reference books. She has verified that all titles in Gale Virtual Reference Library and Sage Knowledge are available with unlimited simultaneous users. That is also true for O’Reilly for Higher Education (formerly Safari) titles.
  • If we find outdated editions of e-reference titles showing up in searches, we should send an email to Sheila, Kirsten, and Carol to make sure these titles are removed from our collection, ArcherSearch, and catalog results.
  • We subscribe to the Academic Core collection of Credo Reference. We may want to explore more about what is available through Credo at https://www.infobase.com/product/academia/credo-academic-core/

2. We have set a new deadline for converting our libguides to the template: December 18, 2020. Kirsten has sent out a list with the guides that still need to be converted.  Much work has been done, and much is left to do. J

3. We agreed that we would like to add an STLCC icon to databases that require an STLCC login. Among other things, this will help clarify access when we create mixed lists of resources in libguides. Amazingly, this icon was created and demo-ed during the meeting and as of this writing, all databases requiring login have been “iconized.”

4. Kirsten shared information about an STLCC Mobile App that is in development and will roll out sometime in October. The libraries will be available through the app, for both current and prospective STLCC students. Kirsten is working with the development team to provide perspective from the libraries.

5. We discussed integrating Teams with Book a Librarian and decided we will wait until Teams has been fully rolled out and we have more time to practice with it.

6. Participation in Campus Life Event – Rush to Judgment. Those of us who are available will join the conversation during the campus life event. Becky will contact some faculty who teach media literacy to invite them to join us. A link to the event is below. 7. Each LFG “lead” made a report.  Here are few takeaways from those reports:

  • Sharon has updated the A&OER guide, suggesting that using library resources may be one way to lower textbook costs for some courses. She suggested that we need to start with a student survey and faculty survey to determine interest/participation in A&OER at STLCC.
  • Sarah shared that our VCAA has substantial discretionary funds to put toward an A&OER initiative and Sarah is working on a proposal for setting this initiative in motion.
  • Joanne has collected materials suggestions since we went online last spring. At our next meeting we will make shared decisions about those requests and work on processes for continued shared collection development. Joanne will bring a draft of processes that we can work from.
  • Janice has plans for revisiting our involvement with Project Outcomes for instruction assessment and for bringing to our group new ideas for how we best deliver instruction.
  • Cathy is working on compiling a list of all faculty for her efforts in communicating with faculty. She updated us about 2 faculty speakers series events, one which has been set for November 19 – Hot Books for Cold Nights.
  • I asked the team to let me know where we might have a need for new Online Learning Objects and will continue to create them as those needs arise.

Meeting of LFG 2019-10-18

Attendees: Joanne Galanis, Sharon Fox, Janice Hovis, Cathy Reilly, Becky Helbling

Key Information:

We reviewed the statistics collected during October. Janice noted some inconsistencies in how we recorded statistics from campus to campus.

Zoom is available for us through Morenet. At a future meeting we will look into possibilities for using Zoom with students at a distance. There are other resources available through Morenet. See https://www.more.net.

The Peter Felten's keynote address is available for the FTTC conference. See http://www.umsl.edu/services/ctl/fttc/keynote.html. The focus of this keynote is the importance of relationship in student success – mentor of the moment. Past keynotes are also available there and also highly recommended.

We all have access to OneDrive and Office 365. The best way to access it is to go to Office.com, and log in using your stlcc.edu email address and password. We all have 1 terabyte of storage on OneDrive.

ArcherSearch is a great tool for finding course guides using course name, course number, or instructor last name. Example: you can find the ESL 060 course guide by typing in ESL 060 or Diversity

We should be judicious in our requests for rush orders. When we do make a rush order, we should provide information about why it is rush and who is requesting it. This will help acquisitions prioritize orders.

Key Decisions:

We will revise the statistics collection form and provide better instruction to improve the accuracy of our statistics for the spring.

We would like to add Business (Gale OneFile) to Best Bets for Business and demote Basic Computer Skills @ Learning Express to below the Best Bets

We will devote one hour at the beginning of our future meetings to instruction. Sharon will plan our discussion for our next meeting.
